Although this privacy application looks quite promising, the demo restriction completely hobbles its functionality, making it pretty much useless. Evidence Cleaner’s main interface is a small midnight-blue box containing check boxes that let you select which areas of your system to wipe. In theory, the program can erase your Web-surfing tracks from Internet Explorer and Netscape, and it also can clean up evidence from system areas such as the Clipboard and the Recent Documents menu. We were impressed with the large list of supported third-party apps, which include popular toolbars, firewalls, IM clients, and media programs. Evidence Cleaner includes a very basic scheduler, but it unfortunately lacks a secure file shredder. That’s all fine and well, but the real problem is this trial version won’t let you actually remove a single piece of history–not even cookies or temporary Internet files. Therefore, we can’t even verify that this software actually does what it says, forcing us to send users in the direction a more capable privacy utility.
