AdCleaner effectively blocks annoying advertisements while you surf, though it doesn’t provide automatic updates for adware removal. The program works as an add-on of sorts, kicking into action each time you launch Internet Explorer’s browser. Convenient hot keys are also available to instantly enable/disable blocking and to access AdCleaner’s tidy interface. Docked in the taskbar, AdCleaner blocked most ads during testing, including floating, pop-up, flash, and animated ads. It also kept a count of blocked ads and provides a list of the host sites. You’ll then be able to manage the Web sites with permissible ads by placing them on a whitelist. We also scanned our computer and removed potential threats with the application’s built-in adware and spyware remover, though we would have liked an update feature to stay on top of newer, craftier types of malware. The short seven-day trial period is a stingy one, but this app works well for those who hate annoying advertisements.
