This simple utility easily transforms a list of files or folders into a TXT or HTML document. The basic interface of PrintFolders wastes no space; every feature has its purpose, and you can customize the colors of the output HTML file. The program has both positive and negative aspects. On the positive, you can sort final results by name, extension, size, and date; include full file paths to the final document; and include ID3 tags, file sizes, and extensions. However, the program cannot see inside a file to, for example, read its ID3 tags. Though PrintFolders is not a complete file-management solution, professional and power users may find it irreplaceable for cataloging what’s on their computers.

This program, ahem, goes to 11 (and costs you zero, too). 11view allows you to view, edit, and manage digital images. Despite its small file size, it has plenty of useful features. Once you select a image folder that contains the photos you want to manipulate, the images will appear as thumbnails at the top of the main window, with the first image in the main editing window to the lower right. Double-click an image and it will blow up to full-screen size. Editing options include tools for rotating, adjusting brightness, tweaking gamma, and adding a photo-negative effect. 11view also can perform batch conversions to change filenames, the size, or the resolution, or it can add an image overlay to pictures. You can even watch a basic slide show of your images or create an animated GIF. Overall, 11view is a powerful program that comes in a small package–with no price tag attached.

This photo-editing tool seems better suited for technical shooters than everyday shutterbugs. Nevertheless, Cleanerzoomer’s interface, while certainly not beautiful, is simple to use. Toolbar icons provide access to all major editing functions, while a handful of the most important ones get huge buttons on the Instrument Browser. The lion’s share of the main window is reserved for previewing images, but you can always zoom in or out if you want a different view. Power users can process files via the command-line interface. Unlike many standard image editors, Cleanerzoomer doesn’t include tools for cropping or rotating images or removing red-eye. Nor does it provide effects or filters. Instead, it focuses on cleaning up the technical aspects of your photos, providing features for removing JPEG noise and fixing artifacts. You can fine-tune the parameters of each editing tool by using sliders. For example, the Nova Sharpen feature lets you adjust the threshold, the maximum smoothing diameter, and the difference correction of the effect. We appreciate the program’s ready-made presets (for instance, one for blurry photos) and its ability to save numerous settings in profiles. Seasoned photographers with an eye for detail likely will find Cleanerzoomer a welcome addition to their arsenal of editing applications.
