Beware, after playing just one game of Moraff’s “MahJongg 2009,” you’ll find yourself eager to come back and play more. We just wish the trial period lasted longer.

The user interface is colorful, easy to navigate, and offers users a few extra features. Prominent menu buttons reside at the top of the window, and allow you to choose from different game designs, and apply game settings, such as the number of matches, and tile-set displays. There also are buttons to undo and redo moves. In terms of extras, you’ll find a radio that plays soothing music to get you in the mood to play mah-jongg, and almost the entire user interface, down to the cursor, is customizable. The game tiles are bright and colorful without being too busy. If you’re new to the game of mah-jongg, an extensive Help menu will have you up and playing in no time. We jumped right in, clicking the tiles to make matches, and we liked the score and ranking information that appeared after the game was over.

The one downside to the program is its 14-use trial, which is pretty stingy. But it’s still plenty of time for experienced and novice users alike to become highly addicted to this well-designed version of mah-jongg.

JawDropper 2007 is a basic puzzle game that involves matching groups of similar objects in order to clear the game board. Although we have seen similar games before, JawDropper’s attractive interface and many options make it one of the best.

The program’s graphics are quite attractive and sleek. The default version features credibly 3D-looking balls, but users can choose from many different backgrounds and JawDropper objects. There are seasonal themes, such as jewels, flowers, billiards balls, and many others. All of these were high quality, and we had fun playing with different combinations of backgrounds and objects. The built-in Help file offered both instructions for playing the game and an overview of its various features. Gameplay was simple and addictive. The game has plenty of features, including five levels of difficulty, each of which contains three different board sizes. The game’s appearance can be customized with controls for background opacity and image stretch; users can choose a solid color instead an of background image if they prefer. When Cheat mode is enabled, users can shuffle pieces, add rows, and undo their last actions. Overall, the program is well-designed with plenty of room for customization, and although by nature it’s a bit of a one-trick pony, it’s a lot of fun. We had trouble tearing ourselves away from it.

JawDropper 2007 has a 14-use trial. It installs politely and uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users seeking a fun and simple puzzle game.
