SoundBunny for Mac gives you a central location for managing your Mac’s various audio sources. It’s extremely easy to use right out of the package, making it an appealing choice for all user levels.

Pros

Ready to go: As soon as SoundBunny for Mac is installed, it’s ready for use. All of our running apps appeared in the window, with a slider to control the volume.

Easy to use: Not only do your running apps automatically appear, but the software itself is extremely intuitive. Just click and drag the slider to control the volume levels. If you need any other information, a help file is included. We turned up the volume on our Messages app, so that we could hear it over our music coming from iTunes, and it worked like a charm.

Ignore list: There were a few apps on the list that didn’t offer any kind of sound, so it was pointless to keep them on the list. All we had to do was select the ignore option. The program was then removed from the list. You can manage your Ignore List from the software’s Preferences menu.

Cons

Customize after the fact: Honestly, we don’t really have anything bad to say about SoundBunny for Mac. Some users may prefer to manually create their list of apps to control at the beginning instead of having to go in and click Ignore. However, that’s just splitting hairs.

Bottom Line

SoundBunny for Mac will not only appeal to gamers but also to anyone who has multiple apps running at the same time. We highly recommend it to anyone looking to customize their sound options.

Hear for Mac offers a range of audio control and enhancement tools not native to OS X. With a full 10-96 band equalizer, 3D sound tools, and more, you can add special effects to your audio for listening on headphones or speakers. Depending on the type of audio system you have, there are a number of options for how to optimize using Hear.

Pros

Works well with existing Mac software and hardware: Hear works well with the majority of software built in to the Mac. This includes tools like iTunes and Safari and most external speakers and headsets. The sheer volume of options for optimizing sound makes it a fantastic tool for most everyday listening.

Enhances and improves sound quality: Hear can optimize existing tracks, videos, and other sound-based content on your computer. Small speakers will sound richer and fuller than they did before, with numerous options to tweak if you know how to use them.

Cons

Doesn’t work with all software and settings: There are certain software tools and settings that Hear doesn’t work well with. We experienced some issues with GarageBand and other software not working properly or sounding more or less the same as they did without Hear active.

Bottom Line

If you are interested in boosting the quality of your audio for standard playback or editing, Hear is a solid piece of software that works in most settings. For those without an audio background, the more robust features will remain unused, but even the basic enhancement is still worthwhile.
