We all encounter times when we need text with a little pizzazz, whether we’re working on a Web site, a presentation, or something else that requires eye-catching visuals. Pos Text Effects is an easy-to-use program that lets you create text-based graphics that can be used as signs, headers, banners, and so on. Even if you don’t know anything about design, Pos Text Effects is a piece of cake to use.

The program’s interface is plain and intuitive. First, type or paste your text into the text box. There are typical formatting options here, including buttons to set alignment and to bold, underline, and italicize text. There’s a lengthy list of fonts to choose from, and the font size can be set anywhere from 6-point to 500-point. The types of effects that can be applied to the text are categorized as 3D, textured, glowing, general, and miscellaneous. There are quite a few to choose from, and it’s easy to scroll through them and preview your text in the different styles. Color options let you select custom colors and adjust the image’s opacity. Once you’re satisfied with your newly styled text, simply save it in the desired format and use it however you like. The program doesn’t have a Help file, although brief instructions within the interface give a general idea of what to do. Overall, Pos Text Effects isn’t exactly a state-of-the-art graphic design tool, but it’s a nice choice if you want to create snazzy text with little effort.

Pos Free Photo Editor promises to take the complex work of improving digital photo quality and distilling it into something everyone can do. While this product does a great job of breaking the process down to its elements, more experienced photo editors will probably want more than what it has to offer.

This free program has a vibrant interface that invites new users to experiment and learn. With large, colorful buttons along the top and left side of the photo, users will have an easy time learning each of their functions. The upper row of icons offers opportunities to alter the color of the photo quickly and easily. Commands here range from photo negatives and grayscale, to adjusting hues, sharpness, RGB color, and more. Many of these buttons open up new windows that allow users to manually adjust the effect to their liking. Along the left-hand side are more traditional alteration tools like cutting, pasting, and cropping. In addition, there is an Effects drop-down menu along the very top row, next to the File and View options. This allows users to instantly do things like cut their picture into the shape of a heart and other add-ons.

Pos Free Photo Editor was one of the simplest photo-editing programs we’ve ever tested. The commands and functions are clearly marked and the options are not too complex for new users. More experienced photo editors will want more creative features, but this is a great program for beginners.

What to do when you want to take a photo of a skyline or landscape that won’t entirely fit in your viewfinder? Create a panorama, of course! There are plenty of programs available that can help you stitch multiple photos into one panoramic image. Pos Panorama Pro is an easy-to-use option that will have even beginners creating great-looking panoramas in no time.

It just so happens that our spouse likes to create panoramic images from photos taken when we travel, so we had no shortage of fodder for Pos Panorama Pro. We tried the program with four photos of the San Francisco skyline, and the program’s helpful wizard interface walked us through each step of the process. First we chose whether we wanted to create a vertical or horizontal panorama. Then we selected our images, which Pos Panorama Pro automatically arranged in the correct sequence. There were a few settings that we could adjust, such as the image size and quality, the combination mode, and the transition type, and then Pos Panorama Pro set to work combining our images. The resulting image opened in an editor that had tools for correcting brightness, contrast, RGB, gamma, white balance, and so on. The panoramas produced by Pos Panorama Pro were pretty impressive; although our first effort displayed subtle color differences at the seams, adjusting the program’s settings (higher quality and a more gradual transition) helped considerably. If we looked closely we could still tell a slight difference in some places, but it’s unlikely to be noticeable to anyone who’s not looking for it. The program’s built-in Help file includes plenty of useful hints to help you get the most out the program’s features. Overall, we think that Pos Panorama Pro is a great way to create panoramic images without a lot of hassle.
