PDFill lets you create and edit PDF files at a fraction of the cost of Adobe Acrobat. However, it gives you so many options that you might be overwhelmed.

PDFill PDF Editor smartly tries to mimic Microsoft Word with its layout. Sadly, it doesn’t replicate Microsoft Word’s ease of use. There are about 100 or more icons that all do different things. While this means you’ll be able to do just about anything you want with your PDFs, it also means you’ll have trouble finding some features. Though most of the things you’ll use most often are in the toolbar, it’s still a little too much to see right when you open the program. Whenever you try to make an edit, a new window or text box appears, which is an extra step the program doesn’t need to take. Sometimes, this program believes documents are password-protected when they’re not, which means even more clicks before you can finish your edits. You need to spend $19.99 to purchase this software, as it’s free to try but it will leave you with a watermark on output.

While most users would be fine with a more slimmed-down program, PDFill PDF Editor with its variety of features is a blessing for designers. Users who just need some simple options should perhaps skip on this program and look for a much more user-friendly and less laborious option.

PDFill allows users to alter existing PDFs or create documents from scratch. PDF files are a common format for most businesses today. However, altering and creating fresh PDFs remains a mystery for many people. PDFill PDF Tools hopes to make this process simpler with a number of options, but the busy interface may overwhelm less experienced users.

This freeware program has a cluttered interface that will take some studying and experimentation to master. However, all the elements serve a purpose, and many will look familiar to those who have used a word-processing program. The screen looks very much like Microsoft Word’s display, with a ruler running down the side and familiar buttons for saving, creating, printing, and fonts along the top. Along the left side are a string of icons with tools for creating PDF-specific tools like check boxes, drop-down menus, radio buttons, and more. The right side of the screen features icons that help give PDFs a professional sheen, by sizing and balancing the page with various tools. Along the bottom are still more buttons; these allow users to do everything from drawing text boxes, highlighting text, or even adding videos.

One of its most unique aspects is the helpful hints. When our test PDF opened, it contained no fillable fields and offered to show us how to create them. Boxes pop up regularly throughout and offer other helpful hints.

The only negative is PDFill’s crowded interface. With all four sides covered in buttons, it can get overwhelming. However, with a little practice we think that anyone can create and alter PDFs using this excellent download.

A built-in Help file provides a thorough overview of the program’s features and includes plenty of screenshots. Overall, we think that PDFill PDF and Image Writer Free is a great thing to have around; it’s easy to access when you need it, stays out of your way when you don’t, and it packs a lot of useful features that anyone who works with PDFs will appreciate.
