TagoMan for Mac helps you easily access files even if you don’t have the time to meticulously place them in their appropriate folders. With this app you can tag not only files, but also e-mails, notes, and links.

Pros

Familiar and intuitive user interface: TagoMan for Mac somewhat resembles the Finder window of Mac, so you should easily figure out how to use it.

Tagging opens a variety of usage possibilities: Through tags, TagoMan for Mac can serve as your note manager. The application has its own note-taking feature but it can manage other notes by tagging them. It can also track documents that need to be submitted or completed through a scheme of tags and manual reordering. A great advantage of the app is that tagging is not limited to files.

OpenMeta standard: The app uses the OpenMeta tag standard, which means that tags created using other apps that adopt that standard can be searched as well.

Cons

Sometimes search results take time to properly show everything: There are times when the search results don’t show all the tagged files completely. Closing the program and running it again may help.

No list of used tags shown while tagging: A list of used tags would be helpful in ensuring tagging consistency, especially since sometimes you may forget what tags you used for certain file types.

Bottom Line

TagoMan looks good when compared to Mac’s “Finder,” although it’s notably different in its focus on tag use. If you think Mac’s “Finder” is not efficient enough for you, try this app. It’s accessible, works as intended, and can read OpenMeta tags.

With its ability to keep track of how often documents and Web pages are open, ActoTracker for Mac is a good program for those operating businesses based on hourly rates, among other possibilities. While its interface lacks clear graphics, it proves easy to figure out.

ActoTracker for Mac immediately opens into its main menu, which seems rather cluttered. A tutorial to walk the user through the features would have been helpful, but ultimately the main controls can be figured out after playing with them for a time. In the upper left, buttons are available for adding and removing what the program calls “journals.” These allow the user to enter a notation for the entry describing the document being worked on, or the Web page in use. As entries are made, corresponding notations arise in a list in the main screen, which shows the title, file path, time spent, importance, and the end time of the use. Users have the option to change the layout from a list to a set of icons. A start/stop button in the upper right operates the timer. Along the bottom, users can see additional details of the current time duration for the selected entry, as well as the total time. During testing, the application did a good job of tracking usage. For example, when operating Microsoft Word, it automatically started the timer as it was being used.

For those who need an application to track the time spent on certain programs or Web sites, ActoTracker for Mac performs the job well, provided the user has patience in figuring out its controls and options.
