Sound Grinder for Mac lets you quickly convert your music and video collection to one of ten popular audio formats, providing you with multiple quality settings and metadata transfer. The place where this premium app excels, however, is in its droplet feature, which practically creates a shortcut in Finder for one of your conversion profiles. The performance isn’t bad, either.

Sound Grinder for Mac features an uninspired but usable interface. The main window is divided between a list of files to be converted, playback controls, and an information and settings section. In the app’s preferences, you can customize the columns displayed in the file list and also create presets for different conversion profiles. With the presets you can then create droplets, which are essentially shortcuts that you can place in the Finder, where you can easily use them by dropping files on top of them. This method of conversion is faster and more convenient than the traditional one. It took us four seconds to convert a three-minute MP3 to WAV and three seconds to convert a one-minute MP4 video to WAV.

Sound Grinder for Mac makes the conversion of audio files less laborious thanks to its droplets and presets feature. While it doesn’t impress with its visuals, the app proves to be usable even by the more inexperienced users. If you convert audio files on a regular basis, you should check it out.

Library Monkey for Mac lists your media files and lets you organize them using flexible smart sets, which update their content to satisfy the set conditions. This premium app also offers conversion of media files to one of ten audio formats with customizable settings. Overall the software performs well and manages to produce output files of acceptable quality.

Library Monkey for Mac’s accessible interface lets you organize files in libraries (folders), sets (playlists), smart sets (smart playlists), and bins, which can only be added while some media is playing. When creating a new smart set, you can mix and match more than 30 criteria. We successfully created a set that contained only MP3 files with the word “blue” that were longer than a minute, but encountered difficulties when trying to do a similar thing with MP4 files. The software allows instant playback and supports a video preview pane that cannot go fullscreen. In addition to displaying metadata, the app also allows you to convert files to ten audio formats and even create presets and droplets for drag-and-drop interactions. It took us 50 seconds to convert a 14-minute MP4 to an MP3 with metadata transferring.

If you want to filter your media, a tool like Library Monkey for Mac with its smart sets feature will enable you to do just that. On the other hand, people looking for a media player, especially for video, will be unsatisfied with this offering. And when it comes to conversion, this app performs only if you stick to audio output formats.
