Complicated installation: While having to decline add-on programs during installation of a free game is pretty standard, this game’s installer did take it to the next level. There were three installation programs to go through instead of the average two, and each of them presented the extras in slightly different ways. It is possible to install this game without getting any extra junk, too, but you really have to pay attention during the installation process.

Data presentation: Your speed, distance traveled, time, and other relevant information are clearly displayed along the left-hand side of the game screen as you’re playing. You can also see how far up you’ve adjusted your throttle and brake, and the timer counts down, so you’ll always know exactly how much time you have left.

Straightforward controls: This app uses basic keyboard controls, two buttons for the throttle and two for the brake. There is also an option to cycle through a few different camera angles, so you can get a good look at the whole train, and you can control what you’re looking at by moving the mouse.

Cons

Camera control: Adjusting the camera with the mouse is a little jerky, and it’s tough to get the hang of, at first. But with a little practice, you’ll get used to it.

Pros

Easy controls: The controls for this game are straightforward even if they’re not fully explained, with the arrow keys controlling your general direction, and two other keys, Alt and Ctrl, for Nitro and Brakes, respectively. The game also lets you know when to step on the Nitro when you first start playing, which is a nice way to ease into the dynamics of the game, especially for inexperienced players.

Types of races: There are several different types of races you can choose from in this game. The Quick Race option lets you learn the courses and get the hang of the controls before you enter real competitive races. For that, you’ll want to choose Competition mode, but there is also a Time Attack option if you’re more interested in maximizing your time away from other cars.

Cons

Control issues: Although they’re not that complex, the controls for this game are a little clunky and over-sensitive, and you also have to hold down the Alt button to use the Nitro, which isn’t clear in the instructions. That wouldn’t be such an inconvenience except that only pressing Alt and then letting go pauses the game, making it harder to figure out how to use the feature correctly.
