Super Finder’s user interface isn’t extraordinary, but it’s easy enough to understand. Tabs let you navigate between date and time configurations and general setup options. You can search by file or folder name, and choose the file extensions that you want to exclude in the search. To narrow down or expand the search, you can select the drives that you want to include, as well as any subfolders. More advanced settings let us specify dates and time parameters and file attributes. We had to visit the Help menu to figure out how to perform a wild card search for a keyword, but our research paid off because as soon as we entered the proper asterisk and keyword, the program quickly pulled up all related files according to our specified criteria. Large command buttons on the interface let us manage specific files. With the simple click of a button, we were able to open, delete, rename, and check the properties of a selected file.

The program’s interface is attractive and intuitive, with a design that’s reminiscent of recent versions of Microsoft Office. We liked that Super Finder offers both Simple and Advanced modes, making it suitable for users of all experience levels. The actual search capabilities are impressive; there are many options for customization, including the use of wild cards, file name masks, and partial file names. Users can specify file characteristics such as size, time stamp, and other attributes, include or exclude subfolders, ignore the case of the file name, and much more. We especially loved the fact that the program can be quickly accessed from the context menu by simply right-clicking on any folder; Super Finder launches quickly and is ready to go. The searches themselves are surprisingly efficient; the same searches with the Windows search utility took longer and returned fewer results. Super Finder comes with a built-in Help file that could stand to be a little more detailed for total newbies, but most users should find that it provides adequate direction. Overall, we found Super Finder XT to be both easy to use and quite powerful, and that’s a combination that’s hard to beat.
