This diagnostic tool gives you tons of information about every element of your system, such as your CPU, memory (virtual, physical, and swap-file), display drivers, virtual devices, and interrupt-request list. The system information for each category shows up quickly, and most of the benchmarks run smoothly, even when you have other applications running.

We found ourselves wishing for the ability to change attributes and settings, but that is probably beyond the scope of such a program. The standard Explorer-style folder interface makes it easy to access all the information. The arrow keys will only move you up and down the folder list, replacing the information displayed in the main window. The program outputs the system report as an HTML file that mimics the look of the program.

During testing, running a system report took longer than we expected, especially considering how quickly the information shows up in the main program. Otherwise, performance is excellent. Though the program is free, you must register your copy after 11 days and, for some bizarre reason, webmail users like those on Gmail and Yahoo Mail won’t be able to receive the registration codes. Gearheads will appreciate the wealth of system information Fresh Diagnose provides, but the webmail issue is a glaring problem.

Though this free program isn’t much to look at, Fresh View does a beautiful job of keeping your multimedia files organized. The toolbar buttons let you copy an image to the clipboard, print an image, view pictures as a slide show, copy or move them to a folder, and create HTML albums. You can create an HTML page for your images, but only one template layout is available. While you can create new filenames from the album, a batch-renaming feature isn’t available.

Still, there’s a lot to love. Even though you can only save images in BMP, JPEG, and GIF formats, the lengthy list of file types the program can open features all kinds of image, audio, and video formats. The number of effects in the slide-show arena also impressed us. Plus, Fresh View contains absolutely no ads or spyware. Considering the vast number of formats Fresh View supports, any user could put this freeware to work.

The Fresh UI display is that of an expandable file tree, giving a general look at all programs that can be tinkered with. This overview is what really makes this program special. By erasing the countless minutes that could be spent opening each individual program and learning how to make alterations in the program, Fresh UI saves users hours of time over the life of their computer.

For example, we tested Fresh UI and looked at our Notepad options. Where we would normally have to open the program and then search through the menus to find various options, Fresh UI laid all the variables out in a simple display and allowed us a quick way to automatically wrap text, alter the fonts, and more. From there we could go to Outlook Express, Windows Media Player, and other programs with a few simple clicks.

While Fresh UI offers a unique program, it is also bogged down by its poor Help file, and novice users might have more questions than it can answer. However, more experienced users will find this download to be a helpful tool for customizing Windows.
