Fone Rescue for Mac promises to recover lost data on iOS devices. If you’ve ever known the unique horror of finding that important information has gone missing from your device due to physical damage or software malfunction, Fone Rescue for Mac is worth a try.

Pros

Easy to use: Fone Rescue really couldn’t be any easier to use, which is a nice feature when you’re in a blind panic over missing data. Just plug in your phone, wait while the app scans it, and then review the results. The interface is uncluttered and well organized; there’s no guesswork required.

Try before you buy: Nobody wants to invest money into data recovery software that may not actually get the job done. This trial version of Fone Rescue will let you see what the app was able to find; only then do you have to pay for the full version, so that you can restore your data.

Cons

A little slow: The app informs you when you start a scan that it will take “several seconds to a few minutes.” For us, the app seemed to get hung up after scanning 75 percent of our data, and we weren’t sure whether or not it was going to continue. We ended up leaving it alone for about half an hour while we did something else. Eventually, the app finished its scan and delivered its results.

Bottom Line

If your iOS device has sustained a trauma and some of your data is gone, it’s worth trying Fone Rescue for Mac to see if it can be recovered. You have nothing to lose by seeing what the app turns up, and you just might be able to recover your missing data.

Data Recovery for iPhone lets you access items that you may have accidentally deleted or those that were lost from your device after a jailbreak. Once you’ve completed a scan, you can view the recovered files to find the ones you’re looking for, and then you can save them straight to your computer.

Pros

Intuitive interface: This program features a clean interface with tabs across the top of the main viewing window to facilitate navigation. Clicking these tabs lets you move from one type of recovered file to another, so you can quickly find the types of files you’re looking for. You can also select a file from the middle interface column and see a preview of it on the far right in some cases.

Cons

Scanning and loading speeds: Scans took between five and ten minutes during testing. We also encountered issues with the loading of the different types of file previews, and some never showed up at all.

Trial limitations: The trial version of this app only allows you to scan and view previews of recovered files. To save any of the files, you’ll have to upgrade to the full version for $69.95. This is pretty standard for programs of this type, but the trial for this app doesn’t even let you preview all of the recovered files, so you may not even know if the files you are looking for are there before you have to make a purchase.

Bottom Line

Data Recovery for iPhone is a convenient program to use because of its sleek interface and intuitive controls. It does recover an impressive number of files, although it’s sometimes hard to see what exactly they are. But the free trial gives you a decent chance to try the program out before you decide if it’s a program worth purchasing.
