Users with multiple digital photo storage areas may have difficulty working with them using traditional photo programs. While limited in terms of features, iPhoto Library Manager for Mac works well as a library manager.

Available as a free trial version with limitations that are not apparent, the full version requires payment of $29.95. The program’s download and installation, in part due to the native installer, completed quickly, and setup required acceptance of a user agreement. Support for updates appeared to be available and, while there were no easily located instructions, the program’s menus were easy to figure out. After the program automatically loads the photos available on the computer, the user can select from a number of buttons along the top row of the program. These allow creation of new libraries, adding existing libraries, and opening iPhoto for further editing. The graphics associated with the buttons are easy to read. Users can also merge libraries as well as locate and delete duplicate photos, a welcome option for those who are in need of hard drive space. While iPhoto Library Manager for Mac does not advertise itself as a photo editor, some basic editing features would have been a welcome addition to the program, rather than simply directing the user to iPhoto.

While limited in its functions, iPhoto Library Manager for Mac works well as a basic photo file manager.

PlistEdit Pro allows you to edit and control your PLIST files in OS X. PLIST files are “property list” files, and contain a great deal of information regarding program and operating system settings. By editing the PLIST files directly, you gain more control over your computer.

Pros

Excellent help file: PlistEdit Pro’s help file is clear and well-laid out.

Clean interface: The interface is clean and modern looking.

The preferences browser: PlistEdit Pro’s preferences browser helps find those files you wish to work on. You can also save your searches to recall things at a later date easily.

Cons

Lack of warnings: Some warnings for the uninitiated could be helpful, as working with PLIST files is above many people’s heads.

Bottom Line

If you need to work on your PLIST files, this app is one of the best ways to do so. It is easy to use, has a great help file, and does everything it aims to well.
