Users who need to edit video contained on DVDs need a program capable of ripping the video into an editable format. DVDxDV for Mac, with its features and excellent instructions, is a great option for those who want to edit DVD video using other editing programs.

DVDxDV for Mac downloads from the developer’s Web site quickly and the installation occurs without any user intervention needed. After accepting a licensing agreement and going through an initial setup, the user is taken to a menu with tutorial videos. These provide instruction on using the program and sending the files to a video-editing program. For new users, these videos will help them use the program more easily. Technical support is available for program updates. The program’s menu was well designed and even novice users will be able to use it easily. DVDs placed in the Mac drive automatically load in the program and list available titles for conversion. Beyond simple conversion, there are few features available. Further, working with copy-protected DVDs requires an additional program or workaround in order to load them for converting. For homemade videos, the process performs well and output is as expected. The program is available as a free trial version, which places a watermark on output video. The full version requires a $19.95 payment to remove the restriction.

For those users who need a simple program to change DVD video to formats for other editing software, DVDxDV for Mac works well, but does not have many additional features.

Pic Share It Lite for Mac allows you to quickly transfer photos and videos from your Mac to your iOS devices running the free mobile version of this application. A nice thing about this app is that it automatically converts video formats not compatible with iOS. We did run into some issues with certain devices, but additional support does seem to be on the way. The only other negative we found is that a watermark will be added if you don’t purchase the app.

Pic Share It Lite for Mac opens to a minimalistic but intuitive interface. Even if you have little experience using apps on your Mac, you should have no trouble using this application. To begin the file transfer you need to make sure that both your devices have the app installed and are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Once both devices find each other wirelessly, you can start transferring files. The application quickly detected and synced both our devices used for testing — an iPhone 5 and a MacBook Air — and performed each transfer seamlessly. The transfer started as soon as we dragged and dropped a file into the main application window on our Mac, and the progress was displayed on both devices. When we tried testing the app with our iPad 4, however, the application couldn’t complete any transfers. While the desktop version of the app instantly recognized our mobile device, the app installed on our iPad couldn’t find our Mac on the network. When we tried transferring a file, the app notified us that the iOS device was not supported and may be added in the future.

Pic Share It Lite for Mac makes transferring photos and videos via Wi-Fi between Mac and an iPhone 5 a breeze. However, it doesn’t work well on iPad 4. At least not for now.

DVDxDV Pro for Mac offers a free trial version that places a watermark on the output video. The full, unrestricted version requires payment of $39.99. Its download completed quickly, but the installation took longer than expected, despite the native installer. Upon startup, the program gives the user access to a number of tutorial videos, which walk the user through certain functions. The program’s interface, itself, may be complicated for those users who are not experienced with video applications. Drop-down menus allow the user to select input from DVDs or other saved DVD video files. Other formats are not supported. Videos loaded into the program quickly and the conversion process also finished as expected. The program only works with unprotected DVDs. The application also allows users to load DVDs and upload sections of them to YouTube, which is a welcome feature. Unfortunately, there are no advanced functions, like editing.

For those users who need to convert personal DVDs to editable formats, DVDxDV Pro for Mac performs this function well, but lacks advanced features that would be useful.
