Good guidance through creation stages: Cyberlink PowerProducer 6 targets home video users who wish to be well guided through the whole process of creating a presentation. We found all steps very pleasurable to follow, and the end results were above what most home users would manage in a manual environment.

Photo and video editing tools: You can enhance photos with all the auto and manual adjustments you would expect from a basic photo editor. For video, the addition of subtitles, screen text, and dialog balloons are all nice touches that have been introduced in this version.

Cons

Transition and video enhancement limitations: Once you choose a template, no further changes to the general format can be made. We found clip editing much in line with that of a dedicated video editor but without any tools for quality enhancements.

Few templates: We are talking about a single-digit number of readily available templates. This surely does not go down well for a $49.99 package.

Deluxe vs Ultra version: Once you decide to go for the paid version, you will find that the deluxe version does not support H.264 video and Blu-ray discs — you have to go all the way to the even more expensive Ultra version.

Bottom Line

CyberLink PowerProducer 6 aspires to take the strain from the creation of quality home videos, but is not very well rounded in all areas. While sufficiently strong for photo editing, it fails to bring any quality enhancements to video content. As to templates, they are both a blessing and a limitation. Intuitive interface: PhotoDirector shares many traits with tried-and-true workflow interfaces like Lightroom. Primary adjustment and management tools are in menus that are aligned to the screen edges. Manual-adjustment sliders give you incremental control over every aspect of your photo file, from standard color-correction, brightness, and noise-removal tools to more perspective-altering adjustments like lens correction.

Filtered management: Get as basic or as granular as you please in organization. You can manage your photo gallery through tags and labels, and you can sort by flags, color, edit status, and stacks.

Performance: Version 5 takes advantage of 64-bit processor-powered machines, which is critical for loading images at higher resolutions, especially when entering Retina and 4K territory.

Cons

Varying import times: Our import times varied when importing about 40 raw images. Batch load times were noticeably inconsistent compared to those of other photo editors like Lightroom.

Lens profiles: PhotoDirector lacks some of the more precise lens perspective profiles that Lightroom has. That’s not a deal breaker, since most photographers will find 90 percent of their needs met by PhotoDirector’s tools. However, for the few who take their discipline more seriously, that lack is a differentiator.

Bottom Line

PhotoDirector offers a competitive package with comparable value. It’s accessible for photographers of all levels, yet includes enough depth to enable serious photographers to get the most out of their shots.

CyberLink PhotoDirector for Mac lets you import photos stored on your computer, edit them, and organize them into albums. You can also rate your photos (from one to five stars), which makes it easy to browse photos for printing or uploading to social media.

At around 228MB, CyberLink PhotoDirector takes a while to download. Nevertheless, the program installs quickly and opens up to a professional-looking interface. All image folders are easily accessible through the drop-down menu on the left side of the app.

PhotoDirector runs efficiently and edits images quickly. You can tag faces on photos, so you can easily locate a photo with a specific person in it. The slideshow feature lets you drag and drop photos, arrange them, add music, add titles, and upload your slideshow to social media. Uploading to social media took us about 10 minutes because of authorization needed for the social-media accounts. But once everything was linked, uploading took less than five minutes. Once you’ve edited photos, you can also arrange them into a collage and print them to make a custom postcard.

If you like to play with your photos and different photo effects, or if you like to make media presentations using still photos, then you will definitely enjoy CyberLink PhotoDirector. Tons of features: We found CyberLink Media Show to be a very versatile and able application, especially for creating videos and editing pictures. The face tagging and photo touch-up tools performed well, and we had no problems with the DVD or slideshow creators.

Social integration: MediaShow gives you quick links, so you can share media with websites, such as YouTube, Facebook, and Flickr, as well as send files via email directly from the application. We experienced no slowness or errors while uploading files to the Internet.

Well structured: You will find this program to be a great organizational tool. We easily located media files with the crafty calendar view. The layout is helpful and large, so pictures and menu options are not difficult to locate.

Cons

Irregular instability: MediaShow sometimes crashed or froze during our tests. This was a rare phenomenon, but it occurred enough to be a concern for us. This may be a local issue, and your experience may differ.

Bottom Line

CyberLink produces a number of great programs, and MediaShow is one of them. There are many features available in the free version, and it performs all tasks with ease and speed. Multiple design themes would make it a more engaging program. Regardless, you should download CyberLink MediaShow because it is fully-loaded, fast, and versatile.
