iTunes is the default program for managing all of your Apple devices, but it’s certainly not the be-all and end-all for managing your iPhone or iPod content. CopyTrans promises an easy, smart, safe way to transfer and back up your Apple device content, and it delivers.

To ensure a positive user experience, CopyTrans offers help from the get-go with a pop-up window that gives you links to its online User Guides, Getting Started Guide, and video demo. But thanks to its simple but functional user interface, we really didn’t need the documentation. With our iPhone 4 plugged into our PC, the program immediately went to work pulling our playlist and camera info and displaying the content in the window. Our music playlist info was broken down into Genre, Artists, and Albums. You have two backup options: Smart and Manual. With Smart backup selected, we clicked the button of the same name. CopyTrans immediately went to work and we could watch the status of the backup in a pop-up window that also allows you to pause and cancel the action. Now, we don’t keep a lot of content on our iPhone – we had only 89 files between apps and music – and it took about seven minutes to copy all of the files; it wasn’t a lot of time, but if you have a lot of content on your device, it could take a bit of time to complete. Still, once CopyTrans finished copying all of the files, it copied the files to our computer and imported them to iTunes. The Settings menu gives you the option of displaying album artwork and sending errors and/or usage statistics to the CopyTrans team.

CopyTrans comes as a zip file, but installs and uninstalls cleanly. It’s a worthy program for restoring your iPhone, iPod, and iPad content and easily transferring files between devices. We recommend it for all user levels.

Breaking free from the closed-in world of Apple is easy if you have the right tools. CopyTrans Drivers Installer is a good first step toward unlocking more of your Apple gadget’s potential without jailbreaking it. It gives you the right tools to start using third-party downloads with your iPod, iPhone, or iPad.

Upon downloading the ZIP file you will be given two options for installing this software: automatic and manual, which is for advanced users. If you have iTunes already installed you will get an error message. Keep in mind that once you go down the road of third-party software, you’ll have to leave iTunes behind, at least temporarily. Outside of that, CopyTrans Drivers Installer makes perfect sense. It is a great alternative software for all of your Apple gadgets and is built to work and communicate with them without much difficulty or many hiccups. It is very automated and easy to use software with a clean and user-friendly interface.

For anyone ready to make the jump outside of Apple’s preferred marketplace, CopyTrans Drivers Installer will make the transition incredibly easy. It’s only unfortunate that you have to lose iTunes to use this software, but it makes sense. If you were happy with iTunes, you wouldn’t be searching for other options.

CopyTrans Manager lets you move music from your computer to your iOS device without needing to go through iTunes in the process. No matter where the music you’re moving came from, it’s easy to transfer through this straightforward and convenient tool.

Pros

Nice interface: This app presents features and options clearly, so you can quickly go through all of the music on your device and all related data. Once you connect your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, you’ll see a list of the files on the device. To add more music, all you have to do is drag and drop the files from your computer right into the app.

Built-in player: There is also a Music Player in the app that lets you play the music from your device through the computer. Just select the song or songs you want and hit Play. If the files are in MP3 format, the app will play them immediately. But if they were purchased through iTunes, you’ll have to install the appropriate codecs to play M4A or M4P files, and the app will guide you through the process of doing this as well.

Cons

Limited file types: This app is only useful for managing music and videos on your iOS device. If you’re interested in transferring photos, apps, or other types of data, you’ll have to install a separate program.

No storage: While it’s nice to be able to play your music through the computer, that capability only exists when your device is connected to the computer. Once you disconnect it, all of the data is gone as well, since the app itself doesn’t store anything.

Bottom Line

CopyTrans Manager is a good option if you often want to bypass iTunes when moving music from your computer to your iOS device. Its clear interface and convenient setup make it great for this purpose, but if you’re looking for a way to manage all of the data on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, you may be disappointed. The program is completely free to download and use, however, so it’s worth trying out to see if it will work for you.

CopyTrans Contacts provides a one-stop-shop where you can add, delete, import, export, and otherwise manage contacts between different devices. It works with Outlook, iOS, Android devices, and more.

Pros

Great support: When you launch the app for the first time, you’re greeted by a screen that allows you to jump right in if you choose, but also gives you the option to view an FAQ, read user guides, or view tutorials.

Easy to use: Two primary buttons dominate the top of the screen: “Export selected” and “Import Contacts.” They’re self-explanatory, let you import contacts from your device, and export selected formats to the format or device of your choice.

Additional features: Although it is billed as a contact management app, this program also allows you to work with a number of other types of important phone data — messages, notes, reminders, and bookmarks.

Cons

Pricing is high: You only get to perform 50 actions with the free version of the program. After that, it costs $15, which seems high, considering that most users could find a way to complete the same functions for free, even if they couldn’t do so as quickly or as efficiently.

Bottom Line

This easy-to-use program doesn’t overwhelm with bells and whistles, but does allow you to easily get down to the work of syncing your contacts wherever you need to.
