]]> This cute Christmas-themed platform game stars an elf that goes on a trip through the land of thieving penguins and tasty snacks. Despite the penguin-bashing, Adventure Elf is completely nonviolent. The elf only chases the penguins to recover presents, which they took only because they thought they were food. Adventure Elf launches on your desktop after a brief installation. The elf jumps onto boxes and moving platforms, eats cookies and donuts, and destroys penguins. He has no weapons, so the only way he can defeat a penguin is to run into it or jump on it. You play against the clock, with goals the elf must reach for you to progress. The elf has a limited number of lives, which you can’t increase. The only way we managed to lose a life was by falling from too great a height, though. Even when it’s nowhere near Christmas, Adventure Elf can keep kids and adults amused.

]]> This Flash game places a humorous, yuletide-themed spin on the traditional Lines-type puzzle. As in similar programs, Santa Balls 2 tasks you with lining up matching elements to remove them from the board. The game’s seasonality is reflected in the Christmas-ornament game pieces and a feisty cartoon elf who praises your fruitful moves and criticizes your faulty ones. Also, even though you can choose to hear a techno version of “Jingle Bells” as you play, you can’t disable the commentary, which can try your patience after a few levels. The graphics are fairly decent, and you can choose to play in full-screen mode if you want a better view of the action. At first, we didn’t find Santa Balls 2 very challenging, since it only takes three ornaments to make a combination. However, as time progressed and more piece types were added to the board, we found it more and more difficult to locate the few potential matches on the board. Puzzle fans looking to get in the holiday spirit may find that this free game makes a fun gift to themselves.
