Creating a ringtone requires only a few basic tools–all of which this application features, but with few extras. Clearly defined buttons handle cutting, copying, pasting, deleting, and fading sections of the audio file. However, it’s missing a time code display that would have made those functions more precise. Editing is further complicated without such standard commands as “return to beginning,” or “delete from here.” Still, novice users won’t be distracted by numerous options, and the help file teaches basic editing. A completed sound bite can be easily saved as an MP3, WAV, OGG, or WMA format file. Cell phones with USB upload capabilities can then import the final ringtone. Other users can upload the ringtone using the SMS-messaging function. While we wouldn’t use this program to make dozens of ringtones or for precise audio file editing, it cleanly handles down-and-dirty ringtone creations from popular audio formats.
