It s nice to see a photo-editing program aimed at the audience between rank beginner and the seasoned pro. Similar to many basic programs, Photo Lab offers simple touch-up filters, including the all-important red-eye reduction. But it also provides effects such as Gaussian blur, sharpening, saturation adjustment, and brightness and contrast correction. It supports TIFF, BMP, GIF, JPEG, and even multilayer Photoshop files. Photo Lab also includes multilayer support, color filters, fade-out effects, a clone tool, a gradient tool, and selection tools. You will find a few basic drawing tools but nowhere near as many as we’ve seen in other image-based applications. The interface is similar to Adobe Photoshop, and you can make many changes in the preview mode. However, there s no way to customize the itsy-bitsy toolbars. The online help is rather spotty, too. Photo Lab best suits users familiar with Photoshop, but who don t want its high-end features, or high-end price.
