This smart-looking utility restores digital images that have been accidentally deleted from CompactFlash, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, USB memory drives, and even hard drives. ImageRecall’s interface is simple; just specify the source drive for recovery and press the Recover Lost Files button. We couldn’t test all the program’s features, since the demo disables advanced options such as file-type selection, memory-card backup, and CD burning. Also, the trial version recovers only 10 movies and 10 images per scan. You can preview found images in a thumbnail browser before recovering them, but you can’t preview movies. Despite those limitations, ImageRecall is a dependable, well-made package that makes a stressful process as painless as it can be. Its quirky ’50s-retro styling and inability to recover any files but images and movies make it better suited for home use than for offices.
