This old-school, Gauntlet-style shooter sends you through a maze of postapocalyptic bunkers to destroy an army of gore-splattered, bloodthirsty mutants, all to the rock-out beat of an original cyberpunk soundtrack. As in Gauntlet, one or two players can join in on the same top-view map, choosing from four possible mercenaries armed with different weapons and powers. Hollow Ground delivers replay value by encouraging you to figure out which characters work best in which situations, because you’ll need to divvy up a limited supply of credits, upgrades, and power-ups. Active player forums, good support, and the promise of a constant supply of new custom maps should keep hard-core gamers coming back for more.
