When e-mailing or archiving huge files, it sometimes helps to cut them into smaller pieces. Fast File Saw & Joiner does exactly that, and puts the pieces back together, too. The interface consists of two tabs: Join File Pieces and Saw File. The controls for setting the piece size aren’t very intuitive, but in our tests the program did a good job splitting and merging a 1GB file without overloading the computer. Unfortunately, it can’t create self-joining packages, so recipients of your files will also need to install the program. Given that more popular and powerful archive programs, such as WinZip, also split and join files, it’s hard to argue for using Fast File Saw & Joiner instead. So we won’t try. If you need a free program for some quick file splitting, this one will do the job. For more regular use, you may as well pick up a more full-featured archive package instead.
