Although we have a few complaints, Clean Machine Plus nonetheless makes a decent privacy-protection tool. Similar to any privacy application worth its salt, this one clears away your Web-surfing tracks, although it only works with Internet Explorer. This program’s interface isn’t its strongest point, as it takes a few minutes to get your bearings. Still, most users should be able to operate it with no trouble after doing a bit of investigation. Clean Machine Plus can automatically empty your Recycle Bin, but unlike many similar apps, it can’t wipe other Windows system areas, such as the Run menu or the Clipboard. The list of supported third-party apps also is quite small, restricting you to MSPaint, WinZip, and WordPad. On the plus side, the included pop-up blocker works well, although it couldn’t stop some of the more complex ads we threw its way. We so appreciate the tool for wiping our hard drive’s free space, and we like the secure file shredder, which overwrites documents 35 times to make sensitive data nearly impossible to recover. Still, we think the five-use trial will be too short for most users to really decide if the program is right for them. Clean Machine Plus isn’t perfect, but its strong feature set helps make it a worth a try for more experienced users.
