Despite a couple of minor falterings, this simple yet functional CD ripper stands as a solid choice. AudioMagician CD Ripper’s interface will be familiar territory to most folks, with the large listing of CD tracks taking up the majority of the main window’s real estate. Although the program can access the online FreeDB database to retrieve song and artist information, it doesn’t automatically do so, forcing you to hit a button. We also wish the program supported audio codecs such as WMA or OGG. Still, the app encodes tracks to MP3s or WAVs quite quickly, handling a 15-song CD in just more than three minutes. If you’re ripping to MP3, you can select from bit rates of up to 320Kbps or encode tunes using the VBR mode. The demo version will rip as many tracks as you want for a full month, a refreshing change from the multitude of similar programs that only encode a limited number of songs. Anyone seeking a dedicated CD ripper should put AudioMagician CD Ripper on her or his shortlist.
