This updated parental-control program protects your children from accessing sites deemed unsuitable, although we did find some functionality issues. APE (Automated Porn Eliminator) sports a comprehensible interface that allows parents to ban specific Web sites and to create a word list to help block sites that contain offensive content. An ignore list allows you to specify Web sites that may override this feature. A record of attempts made to access off-limits sites is logged giving the username, date, time, and banned URL. This application features a PC time monitor for performing a program and computer shutdown at specified times, but unfortunately we weren’t able to get this feature to work. Parents can create a list of certain applications they don’t want their kids to access; also unfortunately, we could still access applications that were supposedly blocked. All in all, parents and system administrators looking for a practical Web site blocker could use this one, but more operative applications are easy to find.
