Screensavers have long outworn their welcome, but some people still refuse to live without them. If you wouldn’t dream of having a blank black screen when your computer is idle, Solar System – Earth 3D Screensaver is for you. It shows you our planet in all of its glory.

The goofy early-’90s sci-fi music this application features is a weird choice, but it doesn’t totally detract from the screensaver. As for the image, it’s a cool spinning Earth that is actually fun to watch. It isn’t the most accurate view of Earth you’ll ever see, but it is pretty. Amusingly enough, if you still had a monitor where screen burn-in was an issue — which is the reason for screensavers — then this screensaver doesn’t move enough to absolutely prevent it. When you stop using the screensaver, you’re greeted by a request that you pay $17 for the full version of Solar System – Earth 3D Screensaver.

If you still love screensavers, this one is a delight to look at. It will keep you entertained and will look especially attractive on larger screens. Don’t waste your time with the paid version, though. The free Solar System – Earth 3D Screensaver works well enough to not need the upgrade.
