This no-frills utility handles its job–ripping digital-audio files from CDs–but doesn’t offer many bonus features. CD to MP3 WAV Maker’s bright, clear-cut interface is one of its best attributes, with prominent icons for ripping to MP3, WAV, WMA, RM, or OGG formats. You can set the bit rate and audio quality, and we were pleased to see support for the space-saving VBR mode. In our tests, the program ripped files at an average rate of speed–not poky, but not exactly fast. CD to MP3 WAV Maker can fetch song information from the Web and includes an ID3 tag editor. Although the program contains a CD player sans fast-forward, rewind, and shuffle functions, you won’t find any other features, such as a burning utility. If you can live with its limited abilities and 15-track trial restriction, CD to MP3 WAV Maker will take care of business without incident.
