Of all the creatures in the animal kingdom, worms aren’t considered the most speedy. But in this game the slithering sort get their day, or something like it. Super Worms puts you behind the “wheel” of a worm in this Grand Prix racing scenario, where you must either race the computer to the finish line or find a wormy friend to compete against. Aside from the oddly creative choice of vehicle, Super Worms suffers from too many stability issues to make it enjoyable. During testing, the game repeatedly crashed on a computer running Windows 2000. Yet we had no problem playing on a system running Windows XP. Regardless, Super Worms is a low-resolution, low-tech driving game that could benefit from an upgrade–the worms are bulky, awkward, and pixilated, while the environment is flat and lacking in detail. We also were bugged, so to speak, by the game’s soundtrack, which is overly childish and eventually grating. Good for a cheap thrill if graphic quality doesn’t bother you, but we think Super Worms is less than super.
