Despite its rather basic interface, AVItools for Mac offers all of the needed features of a functional video editor and processor, supports a multitude of video file formats, and would be a good tool for many Mac users who need to quickly convert their videos to AVI format.
With the free trial version, AVItools for Mac gives no restrictions other than disabled drag-and-drop features. Several pop-up menus announcing the full version, which requires a $5.99 payment, are distracting, but easily dismissed. The application, itself, starts up quickly, but its main interface is basic and lacks any attractive graphics. For those familiar with other video editors, using the menus should not be difficult. Loading videos is as easy as navigating a Finder window, and the process completes quickly once videos are selected. Buttons for selecting video, audio, and subtitle tracks are displayed prominently, as are those for editing tracks and files. The program loads other video file formats, but its editing features are only available for AVI formats. This may require a separate program for conversion. Once initiated, the processing completes as quickly as expected, and the output functions well.
AVItools for Mac works well and is recommended for users who are looking for a basic video editor for their AVI files. This tool greatly simplifies the process of conversion to AVI format and is suitable to assist even novice users.
