Tri-Backup for Mac adds a layer of security by creating copies of selected folders or your entire hard drive on a predetermined schedule. This premium app features support for numerous methods of backup, including a bootable copy, and can target both local and remote destinations. Additionally, the software provides detailed logs and optional daily reports that are sent to your e-mail.
Following a setup involving a one-click installation wizard, Tri-Backup for Mac requests administrative privileges. It then places an icon on your menu bar and shows you a main interface that is heavily skinned. There are three backup options: doing a mirror backup, or an evolutive or incremental one. Two handy features are the ability to sync folders and to use the FTP protocol for backups. When testing, we successfully created a custom task that copied the contents of a folder to a network partition whenever the partition was connected to the Mac. Other notable features are the ability to compress files, examine your hard drives, generate logs, and receive daily e-mail reports.
If you’d like to protect your data against a sudden hard drive failure, Tri-Backup for Mac can be invaluable, especially since it doesn’t need specialized hardware for network backups. And if you keep a bootable backup in an identical hard drive that’s placed in an external enclosure, you’ll always have a fully functional copy that’s ready to be inserted into your Mac.
Editors’ note: This is a review of the trial version of Tri-Backup for Mac 7.0.2.
