Though it can’t be considered a comprehensive privacy suite, this application permanently deletes files and removes your online and offline tracks. File Wipe is rather simple, and most users won’t have a problem using the clearly defined buttons on the interface. You can easily add files or an entire folder you want to delete, and it takes a minute or two to complete the cleanup. The program can also clean tracks from several Windows system areas and Web-surfing history by deleting cookies and cached Internet files, but the latter is exclusively for Internet Explorer users only. It can clean tracks of third-party applications, but supports only a few programs, including Adobe Acrobat Reader, Media Player, WinRAR, and WinZip. In our tests, File Wipe effectively destroyed our selections and displayed the ongoing process as it worked. You’ll find a couple of government-standard erasing algorithms to choose from, and you can also specify the number of wipes. Overall, we have nothing to complain about File Wipe, and we think it is well suited for home users who want to make sure deleted files will stay that way.
