This powerful slide-show-creation program earns our praise for its pleasing feature set rather than its mediocre design. Upon launch, Slideshow XP gives you the option of using a step-by-step wizard to build your slide show. It might be a good idea to take the program up on this offer, as the interface is chaotic, confusing, and unorganized. For example, it took us several moments of fumbling before we located the icon for previewing our creations. After adding images, you can use your own music files as a soundtrack, specify the interval between frames, and apply transition effects. Slideshow XP also lets you resize, reposition, and change the background color for individual slides, as well as add captions. When you’re through, you can run the slide show on your local machine or create EXE files for sharing. However, we should note that the trial version limits you to five pictures per show. Although professional screensaver developers will need more than this program offers, everyone else will likely be satisfied.
